ANC-EFF theatrics continue to destabilise Joburg – ActionSA

City again left without a mayor to the detriment of the city and its residents

ANC-EFF theatrics continue to destabilise service delivery in Joburg

2 May 2023

ActionSA is extremely angry by the ANC-EFF coalition's theatrics in the City of Johannesburg council which has again left the city without a mayor to the detriment of service delivery to the city’s more than four million residents.

After the ANC-EFF coalition called a council meeting to elect a mayor, it was they who perpetually delayed council proceedings for caucus meetings and once again proves that they are wholly unable to provide the necessary leadership to restore good governance.

The only victims of the ANC-EFF day-long delay tactics are the people of Johannesburg, and ActionSA stands ready to restore good governance and service delivery to all residents.

It is clear that the ANC-EFF is concerned about their majority in council and therefore delayed council proceedings costing the City close to R800,000 which could’ve been spent on service delivery.

ActionSA expresses our profound appreciation for the IFP, ACDP, VF+ and UIM which have shown their commitment to bringing a majority to the council that can put residents first.

With those political parties, we will continue to engage with other like-minded political parties in the City of Johannesburg to put aside petty politics.

The ANC keeps on talking about restoring good governance in Gauteng, but it is precisely because of Premier Lesufi’s back-handed dealings and compromise candidates that residents of Johannesburg are finding themselves in this situation.

ActionSA, a party committed to ethical leadership and good governance, will continue our fight to provide services to all residents of Johannesburg, and ensure that the ANC-EFF coalition is removed.
