ANCWL support's DBE/Lead SA's "no rape" pledge

League says children need to be taught from a young age to respect people and laws of SA

ANCWL SUPPORTS PLEDGE UNDERTAKING BY DEPT OF EDUCATION

The ANC Women's League fully supports the initiative of the Department of Education in conjunction with Lead SA for all children - but more especially young boys - to say a pledge in school assemblies that they will not rape, abuse or commit any form of violence.

We believe this is a step in the right direction to ensure our children are taught from a young age to respect the people and the laws of our country.

We need to re-socialise our society to be one that does not resort to violence when met with challenges. The ANCWL would encourage all South Africans to go through the pledge and commit to the ideals therein.

We would encourage parents to bring the pledge into their homes and say it with their children to ensure that this message is deeply enshrined in our children's minds, not only at school but also in our homes.

We would also want to see corporate companies get their staff to commit to the pledge so that it becomes ingrained into the minds and lives of every South African as we continue to strive for a non-sexist, non-racist peaceful South Africa.
