ANCYL dismisses FState Youth Month Rally claims

League says event was not intended to clash with provincial congress

ANCYL DISMISSES CONFUSION OF ANCYL RALLY BEING HELD SIMULTANEOUSLY AS ANC PROVINCIAL CONGRESS IN THE FREE STATE

The ANCYL is concerned about the allegations that the ANCYL Youth Month Rally was held parallel to the ANC Provincial Congress in the Free State in order to undermine the activities of the ANC.

The ANCYL would like to place on record that the rally was held on the 23 June 2012 on the advice of the ANC Secretary General and the National Chair of the ANC so as not to coincide with the National rally held by Government(led by the ANC), on the 16th June 2012.

It must be clarified that the Provincial congress of the ANC in Free State has been postponed previously and the hosting of the rally was simply on the advice of the leadership of the ANC. The ANCYL was not advised that the the Free State Congress would sit on the same weekend.

On the matter of the attendance and non attendance of some members of the ANCYL, we will engage our structures in order to establish the reasons for such contradictions.

The ANCYL would want to emphasise that confusion in the media be dismissed as the wrongdoing of the ANCYL especially in light of the tragic accident that resulted in the deaths of members of the ANCYL and others being left critically injured.

The ANCYL once again conveys our deepest condolences to the family, friends and structures of the ANCYL in the Free State for the loss of their loved ones, an equal loss to the movement and the nation.
