Bara runs out of painkillers, antibiotics - Jack Bloom

DA MPL says it seems that shortage is due to non-payment of suppliers

BARA HOSPITAL RUNS OUT OF PANADO AND ANTIBIOTICS

Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital has run out of Panado and some crucial antibiotics.

An email was sent yesterday (12 January) to all medical staff to inform them that there are no Panado, Paracods, Tramal or Spectrapain pain killers.

The Augmentin and Tazocin antibiotics are also unavailable.

This is very serious as it is difficult to substitute for these drugs

Augmentin is the most commonly prescribed antibiotic in the hospital and Tazocin is used for hospital-acquired pneumonias.

It is unbelievable that a hospital can run out of a simple product like Panado. Many patients will now suffer in pain.

It seems that the shortage is due to non-payment of suppliers, but whatever the reason this is totally unacceptable and somebody should be fired.

Competent people must be brought in urgently to save this hospital.
