Big shift of black voters to DA - Helen Zille

DA leader says control of Joburg, PE and Tshwane hangs in the balance

Your vote can win it!

Note to editors: Below is an extract of Helen Zille's remarks at the launch of the DA's ‘Your Vote Can Win It' poster in Soweto today. This signals the final phase of this historic election campaign.

Fellow South Africans,

This election campaign has been successful beyond our expectations.

We are poised to make gains in towns and cities across the country because we are recognised as the only party that is truly for all the people. We have the most diverse slate of candidates and we have a track record of delivery for all where we govern.

Our polling and our experience on the ground indicate a significant shift in black support towards the DA in this election.

That is why so many councils hang in the balance. These include the major urban centres of Johannesburg, Tshwane and Nelson Mandela Bay (Port Elizabeth). It is by no means certain that the DA will win in these cities, but it is possible if every person who wants change turns out to vote for the DA on May 18.

The poster we are launching here today says it all: ‘Your vote can win it!' It reminds voters just how close this election will be, and that their vote can bring better service delivery for all where they live.

This will be our message across the country for the rest of this campaign. We will intensify our efforts to persuade every person that they have the power to change South Africa and that change is within their reach.

The Poster:
