SUCCESSFUL BRICS SUMMIT REAFFIRMS THE CENTRALITY OF THE FREEDOM CHARTER
25 August 2023
The recent 15th BRICS summit in Johannesburg successfully promoted the mutually accelerated growth, sustainable development, and inclusive multilateralism of BRICS and Africa. The summit was held under the theme of “BRICS and Africa: Partnership for Mutually Accelerated Growth, Sustainable Development, and Inclusive Multilateralism.” The summit emphasized the maxim of the Freedom Charter, “There Shall be Peace and Friendship!” President Cyril Ramaphosa demonstrated this maxim with great emphasis.
The Freedom Charter emphasizes the importance of South Africa being an independent state that respects the sovereignty of all nations while promoting world peace through negotiation.
A democratic South Africa will not align with military blocs, and equal rights for all will foster peace and friendship. The ANC-led government has paved the way for a multi-polar world, prioritizing the interests of citizens and ensuring a sustainable future.
With global transitions and crises, a more just and inclusive global governance system is urgently needed.
