Bring forward vaccination window for 18-34s – Dan Plato

Cape Town Mayor supports comments made by WCape Premier, says vaccination uptake remains a concern

City supports Western Cape government’s call to bring forward vaccination window for 18-34s

17 August 2021

Given the available vaccine supply and decreasing numbers of those in the 35 and above age group coming forward to be vaccinated against Covid-19, we support the comments made by Western Cape Premier Alan Winde to open vaccinations to the next age group.

Vaccination uptake remains a concern as we work towards population immunity. A potential fourth wave at the end of the year would be disastrous for our communities impacted by Covid-19 as well as for our tourism sector during the summer season. It is imperative that we are able to offer the jab to all as soon as possible.

Last month the Cape Town International Convention Centre was opened as the first mass vaccination site in the City. Yesterday, the City of Cape Town and Western Cape government opened the Athlone Vaccination Centre of Hope – the second mass vaccination site.

We are very pleased to make one of our large facilities available to the Western Cape Government, who continue to make great progress in vital vaccine rollout to residents.

As a fully-vaccinated resident myself, I encourage all to come forward and get the jab as soon as possible, for your protection and those you love. We can beat Covid-19!
