Cape Town's load shedding schedules unfair and racist - COSATU WCape

Tony Ehrenreich says rich areas, such as Constantia, are receiving preference over poor ones

LOADSHEDDING in Cape Town - Unfair and Racist

COSATU is to complain to the Human Rights Commission about the unfair load shedding schedules that prejudice poorer communities. The load shedding for the rich areas like Constantia happens during the least electricity reliant times, whereas the load shedding for the poorer areas who do not have other options in respect of meals etc.; happens at the most inconvenient times, when people most need the electricity.

This load shedding pattern really just continues the City of Cape Town's practice of maintaining the advantages for the wealthier, mainly white communities in Cape Town.

This practice can be observed from the Landscaping in those areas to the My City bus schedules in those areas, to the electricity supply now. The City leaders has little regard for the needs of the communities on the Cape Flats, in the way in which this City is run.

The load shedding that has taken place recently has strong racist undertones in a City that is becoming known as the racist capital of the Country.
