CNC to convene next week - COPE(L)

Congress National Committee to consider disciplinary action against Shilowa faction

COPE SET FOR FIRST CONGRESS NATIONAL COMMITTEE MEETING OF 2011

The Congress National Committee of COPE will be convened on Saturday the 22nd of January 2010, with the National Office Bearers meeting to be convened in the week prior to that. These meetings will deal with, among other things;

* Disciplinary action to be taken against those members who have constituted themselves as a breakaway from the party

* The illegal attempts by some individuals to steal the COPE name and logo,

* The disciplinary process of the Deputy President of the party in Parliament,

* Various provincial matters and matters relating to the Youth, Women's and Student Movements.

The party has noted the ongoing attempts by the Deputy President to install himself as President of the party by dubious means. Those disciplined members of the party that have distanced themselves from this naked opportunism are commended. Those who continue to seek to wreck the party and those who have begun discussions to join or rejoin other political parties will also be dealt with at these meetings.
Some members have taken the willingness of the party leadership to go the extra mile to attempt to foster unity as weakness. Nothing could be further from the truth. The leadership elected at the thus far only legitimate Congress of the party in December 2008 stands ready to rebuild the party from scratch if necessary.

Statement issued by Phillip Dexter, COPE (L), January 16 2011
