Condolences to slain victims of truck driver lawlessness

17 September 2022

ActionSA extends its deepest condolences to the families of the horrific crash in Pongola, KZN allegedly caused by trucks overtaking each other over a solid line which is against the rules of the road.

The grim reality of the lack of safety on our roads confronts us again with the horrific accident that claimed 21 innocent lives, 19 of whom were children on the N2 Highway.

It is of grave concern that, with the proliferation of fatal accidents caused by the disobeying of traffic laws, there seems to be no real plan from the incumbent government to ensure adherence to the Rule of Law on our roads.

The lives of South Africans continue to be endangered while, regrettably, the President and his Ministers continue to make grandstanding speeches claiming to be "working hard and punching above their weight" in their “efforts” to reduce the carnage on our roads.

ActionSA condemns the lawlessness and carelessness that continues to be displayed on our roads with no real consequences from law enforcement agencies.

ActionSA firmly believes the lacklustre response of the ANC government to the culture of reckless driving, contributes to the continuous rise of fatal accidents on our roads.

We call upon traffic law enforcement authorities entrusted to safeguard our roads to fully give effect to their mandate and bring those who are responsible for this senseless accident to book.

The families of the victims of this horrific accident deserve justice.

South Africans deserve safer roads.
