DA condemns continuous disrespect for council proceedings in Tshwane

DA condemns continuous disrespect for council proceedings

19 February 2020

The Democratic Alliance (DA) has attempted yet again to finalise outstanding council meetings from last month, by calling a continuation meeting that was scheduled for today in the Tshwane Council.

This was in the hope that all outstanding matters could be finalised once and for all in order for the City of Tshwane and its Council to stabilise and focus on service delivery before the Ordinary Council meeting on 27 February 2020.

The DA and its coalition partners were in full attendance, but despite sufficient notice of this meeting as well as the programming meeting and multi-party whippery meetings held yesterday to call for calm and cooperation, the ANC refused to show up today.

This is a clear indication that they have no respect for the rule of law nor the functioning of Council, despite their claims of putting the residents of Tshwane first.

The DA will continue to engage the leadership of the other parties to sort out any grievances and find common ground to stabilise Council and move the DA-led City of Tshwane and service delivery forward.
