Cuban engineers: Solidarity continues with legal action

Dept failed to present an alternative proposal with regard to importing Cuban engineers

Solidarity continues with legal action after failure by Department

13 May 2021

Solidarity announced today that it will continue with legal action after the Department of Human Settlements, Water and Sanitation failed to fulfil its intention to present an alternative proposal with regard to importing Cuban engineers.

“They simply left us with no other option but to continue with our legal action. After we, in good faith and at their request, granted them the opportunity to present us with an alternative, they simply did nothing to fulfil this undertaking,” explained Solidarity Chief Executive Dr Dirk Hermann.

“Therefore, our court documents will be served soon, and we are ready to pursue this matter in court. There is no justification for importing Cubans – and that from a country with a deficient water infrastructure – while South African skills are available. The crux of the problem is a total disrespect for skills and the private sector in South Africa,” Hermann concluded.
