DA calls on Tshwane community to join its Corona crisis Charity Drive

7 April 2020

The Democratic Alliance (DA) is extremely concerned about the large number of requests that are flooding in for food parcels and social relief, due to the challenges of the national lockdown to contain the spread of the Coronavirus.

We have approached the Department of Social Development and the Gauteng Provincial Government, and it appears that the demand far exceeds the availability of supplies.

Getting these food parcels authorised is also a tedious process, and the lengthy wait is prolonging the suffering of those who are in dire need of them.

The DA has compiled a list of more than 200 families, across the city, who are in desperate need of food and social relief.

These families are being severely affected by the lockdown and do not know where their next meal is going to come from.

The DA calls on all the churches and other organisations in Tshwane to please join our community drive to collect as many nonperishable food items as possible to assist those families who desperately need support during the Coronavirus crisis.

We further call on all Tshwane residents to take a minute to think of those families who have found themselves in these dire conditions and join the DA community drive.

Let’s reach out to the homeless community, and all the other people who are suffering and help them.

Anyone who has anything to offer in the way of food, bedding, tents, clothing, sanitisers, masks, soap and other essential items, please call us on: 012 343 1358 or contact your local ward councillor.

The DA's community development committee members will assist with collecting and delivering food parcels and other provisions to those who need it the most.

Your contribution will show that you care and it could save a life.

Our thanks to all those who are willing to participate in our community drive.
