DA condemns the gruesome killing of a woman in North West 

The DA is both horrified and deeply saddened by the gruesome mutilation and murder of a young woman in Swartruggens, North West. The details surrounding this murder are so gruesome as to be indescribable and we have been left shocked and speechless. 

This is a yet another reminder of the unrelenting war being waged against the women and children of our country.

We simply cannot continue to ignore the fact that rape and murder of women in South Africa has now become a national crisis - one which requires decisive and swift action from our government. 

We have a great deal of work to do to build a society in which women enjoy the same freedoms as men, and can live their lives without fear.

Unspeakable crimes such as this one show us that South Africa is still a deeply patriarchal and broken society. We need to identify interventions which will enable us to fix what is broken in our country and ensure that crimes such as these are never committed again. 

The DA sends its deepest condolences to the friends and family of the deceased victim. We trust that the perpetrators of this vicious act will be swiftly brought to book and that justice will be served.
