DA sacrificing interests of poor schoolchildren - COSATU WCape

Union federation slams provincial administration for not putting in place special classes for holidays

DA SACRIFICES POOR LEARNERS FOR POLITICAL EXPEDIENCY

COSATU slams DA for not putting in place, special classes for the September Holiday in the Western Cape.

COSATU Western Cape is outraged at the announcement by the DA that they are not going to have catch up classes during September for the learners who lost time during the strike. This is typical DA behaviour putting politics before the interest of Working Class learners.

And they do this for the following reasons;

Ø  They want to perpetuate the myth that the W Cape teachers were not on strike

Ø  They are not really concerned about township schools learners that were mostly affected by the strike, as these learners are not the kids of the wealthy who the DA represent.

Working overtime is a standard practice to make up lost production related to a strike, in all industries and sectors in the country but the DA hopes that the failure rate in poor schools can be high and the DA can blame the unions for this. We want to warn the Premier that we will go to war for the interest of our kids and urge the Provincial Government to put in place the measures to provide extra classes for catch up during September.

We urge them to  address this concern by the end of Business on Wednesday, 15 September 2010.
