DA tries to racially outbid the ANC on land - Pieter Groenewald

FF+ MP says DA spokesperson claims whites reserved best land for themselves under apartheid

DA plays race-card with land

"The Democratic Alliance's (DA) Mmusi Maimane's statement that the DA supports land reform because "...the apartheid system reserved the best land for whites only" indicates his opportunism and also that whites are being targeted as scapegoats. The DA, just like the ANC, is now playing the race-card with land," Mr. Pieter Groenewald, the FF Plus' parliamentary spokesperson on rural development and land affairs says.

"Firstly, it is unacceptable to rouse up emotions over land reform on the basis of race. Secondly, some of the best agricultural land in South Africa was situated in the former Transkei and Bophuthatswana. Even the land audit, conducted by the surveyor-general which was recently approved by Cabinet, could not explain how much land belongs to whites or blacks. The DA is now trying to over bid the ANC to rouse up emotions over land to canvas votes for the 2014 elections. This creates polarisation between black and white and the Freedom Front Plus condemns this," Groenewald said.
