DA using courts opportunistically - COSATU

Federation disappointed at SCA ruling granting DA access to Zuma NPA records

COSATU's response to SCA ruling

The Congress of South African Trade Unions is disappointed at the decision of the Supreme Court of Appeal (SCA) to uphold the DA's appeal to get access to the records that led the National Prosecuting Authority's decision to drop charges against ANC President Cde Jacob Zuma, and its order to the NPA to hand over the records to the Registrar of the SCA within 14 days.

COSATU accepts that the law must take its course and will await further developments in the case, but we condemn the DA for opportunistically using legal procedures to pursue their political agenda, which is to undermine the democratically elected ANC government and its leadership, and try to win in the courts what they failed to win in elections.

COSATU agrees with the SACP's hope that "our courts are, in the administration of justice, alive to this agenda and will not allow themselves to be dragged into the agenda of organisations like the DA".

Meanwhile the federation urges the ANC government not to be diverted from the implementation of its programmes to create jobs, and bring down our levels of poverty and inequality and transform our economy and education, healthcare, housing and public transport services.

COSATU reaffirms its full support for the ANC's 2007 Polokwane Conference resolutions and the leadership collective elected at that conference.
