DA KZN makes history with Mtubatuba by-election

7 May 2015

Today the Democratic Alliance has made history by winning a seat in the Mtubatuba municipality for the first time.

This is a sign that the Democratic Alliance is growing in rural areas and fast becoming a real alternative for South Africans in areas where the DA has never had presence.

The DA has grown from 823 votes in 2011 to a record of over 2000 votes today. The DA also finally has a seat in the Mtubatuba council achieving a 100 percent growth rate.

This victory is testament to the hard work of the activists, staff and political leadership on the ground in Mtubatuba. Special mention must be made of the political leader of Mkhanyakude, MPL Mbali Ntuli. Under her leadership the DA has made inroads into the whole of Mkhanyakude and in the first test of the DA’s relevance in rural areas, has managed with her team to deliver a historic win for the Democratic Alliance.

The DA’s new councillor, Richard Mkhwanazi will now work tirelessly to champion service delivery issues for the citizens of Mtubatuba and to grow the party with Mbali towards more seats in 2016.
