DASO wins 3 seats in Fort Hare student elections - DA ECape

FORT HARE - HISTORIC STUDENT ELECTION BREAKTHROUGH FOR THE DA

The Democratic Alliance Student Organisation (DASO) won three seats in its first election contested at Fort Hare.

Of the 3 seats won by DASO, 1 seat is on the SRC Executive, 1 seat at the East London Campus and 1 seat at the Alice Campus.

This is a vindication for the DA, considering the major opposition from the University management to us contesting this election.

Our strong showing in this election demonstrates why there was apparent collusion between SASCO and the University's management to block a DASO contest.

The DA was forced to threaten legal action against Fort Hare before being permitted to participate in the SRC elections.

DASO in NMMU also experienced similar challenges in getting recognized at the university.

In September last year, DASO won a landslide victory at the SRC election at NMMU.

The DA has now established a strong base at Fort Hare with these results, which will set us up for further growth in the next elections in September.

The Fort Hare results are another indication of the DA's fast growth in former ANC strongholds in the Eastern Cape in the run up to the 2014 elections.
