Decision to place Ingwe Municipality under curatorships welcomed – ANC KZN

Ruling party says intervention necessary to ensure stability

ANC statement on Ingwe Municipality

18 May 2016

The African National Congress welcomes the decision by Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs MEC, Cde Nomusa Dube-Ncube of placing Ingwe Local Municipality under curatorship in terms of section 139(4).

This intervention was of great necessity to ensure stability in that municipality which is a pre-requisite for service delivery.

The sphere of local government remains an important and central pillar of governance in provision of services to our people in order to build a better life for all. The ANC-led government is completely and absolutely intolerant of any action and conduct seeking to undermine the primary agenda to provide services to the masses of our people.

“As an organisation we will continue to keep our eyes focused on developments in Ingwe Municipality and ensure that those within our own ranks involved in this act fully account for their actions,” said ANC Provincial Secretary Cde Super Zuma.

Neither do we expect that our people will accept being treated with disdain by those elected to serve them as councillors. We demand nothing but excellence from the deployed cadres of the ANC and this is something we are not willing to negotiate.

Through our 2011 elections manifesto, we have entered into a contract with the masses of our people who placed their hopes and trusts on elected public representatives deployed by the ANC. We would like to assure the community of Ingwe Municipality that this action by Cogta is in their best interests and requires their full support.

The enormity of our task to build a national democratic society necessitates that we should neither spare any effort nor be complacent in advancing the course of our people.
