Defacing of Zuma painting repugnant - AZAPO

Party says ANC's case should've been heard in court, without resort to criminality

AZAPO's reaction on defacing of President Zuma's painting

As the Azanian People's Organization (AZAPO), we do not condone the painting of President Zuma with his genitals exposed, yet find repugnant that any person would go to the gallery and deface it. We call on law enforcement agencies to act swiftly on those who have allegedly defaced the painting in the Goodman Gallery this morning in Johannesburg.

We should allow the case brought by the ANC and its allies to be heard in court without any parallel forms of criminality.

We cannot afford to go back to the old ways where members and supporters of the ANC are not happy with their political opponents resort to criminality such as burning and threshing of people and houses.

There is a general perception that this country is in a perpetual state of chaos (fairly and unfairly), and it is a concern to us in AZAPO that we need to change such perceptions through best political practice. Making reckless and irresponsible actions is a recipe for disaster and we cannot afford that.
