Dismissal of Thabo Nkhasi a vindication - DA Gauteng

Janet Semple says ANC councillor's actions were exposed by two DA councillors (who were suspended for it)

ANC DISMISSAL OF COUNCILLOR VINDICATES DA

The DA in Gauteng welcomes the dismissal of ANC Councillor Thabo Nkhasi from the Johannesburg Metro. The action against Cllr Nkhasi results from him being found guilty of illegally selling a piece of council land to a church. The MEC for Local Government and Housing, Humphrey Mmemezi, is also going to lay criminal charges (see here).

The information was brought to the attention of the Metro by the actions of DA Cllrs Tsepo Mhlongo and Toni Molefe. The DA councillors are currently appealing their suspension from the Johannesburg Metro because of their actions in revealing the illegal sale to the press before informing the Speaker of the Metro.

Cllrs Mohlongo and Molefe's action has since been vindicated by the guilty finding against Cllr Nkhasi. The honourable thing would be for the ANC dominated Johannesburg Ethics committee to withdraw the charges against the DA councillors. We ask them to do just that.

We also call on MEC Mmemezi to speed up the appeal against the councillors which is long overdue.
