EFF welcomes dismissal of Trevor Manuel’s application for appeal to ConCourt

Fighters say this was only a desperate attempt to amass wealth from the coffers of the party

EFF statement on the dismissal of Trevor Manuel’s application for appeal at the ConCourt

25 September 2021

The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) welcomes the decision of the Constitutional Court to decline hearing the appeal of Trevor Manuel in his desperate attempt to amass wealth from the coffers of the EFF in the pretext of reputational damage.

The Court's decision follows his desperate and bound to fail application for leave to appeal against the Supreme Court of Appeal's ruling that the EFF pay him R500,000 in damages and apologise to him, be referred back to the High Court for Oral Evidence.

The SCA had correctly ruled that claiming damages in application proceedings without hearing oral evidence was not permissible and referred Manuel's claims to the High Court to be pursued through a trial action. Typical of monopoly capital arrogance, vindictiveness, and vengeance, he sought to pursue the impossible, taking advantage of the robust debates around the judiciary of late.

The EFF calls on all South Africans to see this former minister and his party for what they represent and punish them in the upcoming Local Government Elections on the 1st of November by voting for the EFF massively.
