Dropping of Zuma charges would be a travesty – Boesak

COPE’s Western Cape premier candidate says such a decision would taint the reputation of South Africa

DR ALLAN BOESAK RESPONDS TO POSSIBLE WITHDRAWAL OF ZUMA CHARGES

In response to the NPA's statement that they are still considering dropping the charges against Mr Zuma, I would like to caution that the withdrawal of charges will represent a travesty and would smack of pre-election manoeuvring that is a total indictment of our institution of democracy. The consequences for South Africa and will be dire and the reputation and credibility of our country tainted substantially both nationally and internationally.

Boesak appeals to South Africans not to be distracted by this but rather to unite on this matter in defence of our democracy.

Statement issued by Dr Allan Boesak, Premier Candidate: COPE Western Cape, March 18 2009
