EFF postpones all events in observation of Mandela's passing

Fighters explain minor altercation with ANC members in Vilikazi street, Soweto (Dec 9)

EFF Postpones all events in observation of the passing of Nelson Mandela

09 December, 2013

Economic Freedom Fighters has postponed all its events to observe the passing of Nelson Mandela and in accordance with the 10 days of National Mourning. The following events, which were meant to take place this week, have been postponed till further notice;

The community event with the Kgatelopele Asbestos Forum in Kalahari, Maruping Village on the 11th December 2013 which was meant to be addressed by the Commander in Chief

The Gala Diner in Nelspruit, that was meant as a fundraiser on the 13th December, 2013, also to be addressed by the Commander in Chief, together with other CCT members

 The visit to the Eastern Cape Province which was planned for the weekend of the 13th to the 15th December, 2013.12.09

EFF encourages fighters across the country to follow suit and join in the national observing of the passing of a stalwart and freedom fighter. EFF also wishes to clarify that the minor altercation in Vilakazi street, Soweto, where ANC members tried to chase EFF members away in an attempt to make the mourning of Mandela an exclusive ANC affair, will not deter EFF from observing the passing of Madiba.

EFF members took to Winnie Mandela's house to deliver a message of revolutionary condolences and then proceeded to Vilakazi Street where they were provoked by ANC members from an ANC campaign track. It must be put on record that EFF fully recognises and acknowledged that Mandela is a product of the ANC, and that the proceedings observing his passing will accordingly be led by both the ANC and the government. EFF members in Soweto would therefore not contest over Mandela belonging to the ANC, it is a fact EFF fully recognises.

Members and structures of EFF have been sensitised everywhere about this simple fact and therefore will participate in places and events where they are welcome, and where they are not, they quietly withdraw.

Economic Freedom Fighters' commemorations of Nelson Mandela therefore are no attempts to steal him away from the ANC, rather they mark him as an outstanding South African and a freedom fighter to whom the country owes the many political freedoms it enjoys today, black people in particular.
