Goodwill Zwelithini's palaces in a dire state - IFP

Blessed Gwala says gardening and renovations not being done

STATE OF ROYAL PALACES A DISGRACE

THE Inkatha Freedom Party will today submit questions to the KwaZulu Natal Premier, Dr Zweli Mkhize on the state of the Royal Household palaces, whereby their conditions have deteriorated.

It has come to the attention of the IFP that in some instances gardening have not been done for months nor have they been renovated in the current year. A visit to the Royal Palace, last week has revealed that each Royal Palace is in an appalling state that does not match the profile of king Goodwill Zwelithini.

"The conditions the Royal Palaces are in are an embarrassment. These conditions raise serious questions around the Premier and the people assigned to take care of the Royal Household's commitment to assuring that the standard of the places assigned to the King compliment the king's dignitary status," said Honorable Blessed Gwala, Full member of Premier& Royal Household Committee at the KwaZulu Natal Legislature.

IFP notes that 15 years ago the Royal Palaces were a match to his Majesty's calibre. It is essential that it is acknowledged that the state of the Royal Palaces will not only embarrass or degrade the King to foreign visitors but it will erode confidence in the Provincial governance's respect towards the King. This means that the provincial executive and the Premier will be reflected badly to international visitors and tourists.

"The Premier must clarify on whether; a budget has been set aside to renovate the Royal Palaces? If so, how much has been put aside for the current year? The Premier must also tell when was the last time any of the Royal Palaces renovated? IFP wants to know who is assigned to ensure that the job is well done. We cannot use the Royal Household Palaces for Tourist Attraction purposes in the state they are in. It is also a shame that while the King celebrates his 40 year reign that his places of honor are not looked after in the manner that they should be."

Statement issued by Honorable Blessed Gwala, Full Member to the Premier& Royal Household Committee, November 10 2011
