It's too soon to discuss coalitions - Zweli Mkhize

Pretoria – Coalition talk is premature, ANC treasurer general Zweli Mkhize said at the national IEC results centre on Thursday.

"Some of the parties grandstand and want to offer themselves as power brokers - but really, the power brokers are our people. Our people decide who must run municipalities and we will respect that."

He said the ANC needed to analyse what had gone wrong in the wards where its support had dipped.

"Areas like Tshwane, where we had a lot of protests... mayoral candidate issues, candidate selection challenges - it takes a while to heal all that.

"Sometimes this reflects in independent candidates, sometimes a poor turnout. All analysis we have to do afterwards and apply corrective measures where necessary."
