KZN Premier concedes to request for urgent meeting – Francois Rodgers

DA provincial leader says current situation is out of control as SAPS is unable to protect lives and prevent damage to property

#KZNisBurning: Premier concedes to DA’s request for urgent briefing of political party leaders within 24 hours

12 July 2021

As the province of KwaZulu-Natal remains gripped by fear and anarchy, the Democratic Alliance is pleased to report that Premier Sihle Zikalala has conceded to our request for an urgent meeting of all political party leaders within the next 24 hours.

The DA regards the current situation in KZN as out of control. This while the South African Police Force (SAPS) is unable to restore law and order, protect lives and prevent damage to property.

The people of KZN are living in fear. Regrettably, the Premier’s silence to date has been deafening. In fact, he has been missing in action at a time when he should have been at the very forefront in ensuring peace.

The current situation in KZN, unless addressed immediately, has all the makings of spiralling out of control, with further damage to property and loss of lives.

It is critical that the Premier, during his party leaders’ meeting, provide a briefing on the current wave of lawlessness facing KZN. He must also advise what action government is taking to restore calm in our province.

Not only must he share this information with party leaders, he must also reassure the citizens of our province that he and his ANC leadership will put their needs first.

Now is the time for true leadership in our province. This anarchy must be quelled and the rule of law upheld.

Issued by Francois Rodgers, Leader of the DA in the KZN Legislature, 12 July 2021
