Mbuso Mandela: Gender-based violence has no place in society - ANCWL

League says that while it supports the right to be presumed innocent until proven guilty, its thoughts and prayers are with the victim

ANCWL STATEMENT ON THE CHARGES BROUGHT AGAINST MBUSO MANDELA

The African National Congress Women’s League (ANCWL) has noted the court case brought against the grandson of the late Isithwalandwe/Seaparankoe, President Nelson Mandela, on allegations of raping an underage girl. While we respect the right of any accused person to be presumed innocent until proven guilty, our thoughts and prayers are with the victim during this difficult and trying time.

The ANCWL has always maintained, and continues to do so, that gender based violence of any form has no place in our society.

“We call on all South Africans, especially during Women’s Month, to unite and fight against gender based violence in our societies and completely root it completely out of our communities” says ANCWL Secretary General Meogo Matuba.

She further urged law enforcements agencies to act swiftly whenever and wherever this scourge rears it’s ugly head by arresting and bringing to book the perpetrators.

The ANCWL calls on the courts to deliver the harshest possible sentence against those found guilty of gender based violence.
