KZN PSD and SASSA's measures for relief welcomed – Bridget Masango

DA MP says dept will provide relief in form of food parcels, cash, and food vouchers

DA welcomes provincial Department of Social Development and SASSA's measures for relief

18 July 2021

The DA welcomes the decision by the KwaZulu-Natal provincial Department of Social Development and SASSA, to use their remaining budget in the Social Relief of Distress programme, in order to provide support in the form of food parcels, cash and food vouchers.

The chaos and destruction witnessed in KwaZulu-Natal and parts of Gauteng last week can, and should, be laid at the doors of the ANC government, nationally as well as in the respective affected provinces. They must not now also fall short in the effort to clear up the humanitarian crisis left in its wake.

In light of the ANC government's notorious mismanagement of resources during times of crises we will carefully monitor the use and distribution of these funds. We have clearly witnessed this during governments management of PPE procurement, where we are sitting with R10.5 billion under investigation. The DA will do all it takes to ensure the proper management of these new relief measures.
