7 July 2022

Parliament confirms receipt of the correspondence from the Acting Public Protector, Adv Kholeka Gcaleka, advising it, along with other parties to the matter currently before the Western Cape High Court, that she intends to deliver notices of withdrawal of the application by the suspended Public Protector, Adv Busisiwe Mkhwebane, for leave to appeal, as well as the amended notice of motion, on behalf of the Public Protector of South Africa.

The Acting Public Protector also indicated that in the event that Advocate Mkhwebane proceeds with these applications in her personal capacity or the Respondents persist with any relief they may seek, the PPSA shall abide by the decision of the court, unless any of the Respondents persist with seeking costs against the Office.

Parliament has taken note of the Acting Public Protector's intentions on the matter and will await any further directions from the Court.
