NEHAWU backs COSATU CEC

Union pledges to mobilise against corrupt elements wanting to hijack ANC

NEHAWU SUPPORTS THE OUTCOMES OF THE COSATU CEC

NEHAWU is fully behind the outcomes of the COSATU Central Executive Committee {CEC} meeting and as an affiliate we reaffirm our unwavering commitment to work with all the affiliates to implement the resolutions of the federation's CEC.

We fully agree with the federation's assertion that the Alliance remains a correct weapon that will bring about fundamental transformation of our society and support COSATU's firm commitment to work hard in healing any potential rifts and to strengthen the Alliance.

NEHAWU condemns the provocative and unproductive exchanges that have distracted everyone from the goal of ensuring that the ANC Government implements the manifesto policies without delay.

We will remain vigilant and mobilise against those elements that want to hijack the ANC for their selfish interest and will never allow a situation where poor people are used as voting cattle. We shall be monitoring the government to make sure that all its manifesto promises are urgently and fully implemented and will continue to put pressure to the current administration.

NEHAWU endorses the following COSATU CEC's conclusions:

  • The total rejection of Eskom's 25% a year tariff increases and the opposition to the introduction of IPP's in the sector. We are also concerned about the reports that the ANC and its investment company stand to benefit from Eskom because this is a slap in the face to the poor of our country.
  • That education is more important than any other area of development and that we need to transform the quality and quantity of our education system.
  • That the state of our health care system is in crisis and more resources are urgently needed if we are to transform the health sector for the benefit of the majority.
  • We also support the government's undertaking to introduce the National Health Insurance {NHI} scheme and we are fiercely opposed to the introduction of the Public-Private Partnerships.
  • We commit ourselves to work with COSATU and Government in fighting corruption and nepotism in the public service and we call on all our members and society to join in the fight.

We pledge our full support to the COSATU campaigns and we will play our role in ensuring that our federation continues to make a positive contribution in our society. We know that our union movement will never betray the aspirations of our people and will continue to be the voice of the voiceless and be at the forefront of their struggles.
