NPC condemns ANCYL's attack on press

Yusuf Abramjee rejects claims that the media has "sponsored views"

The National Press club strongly condemns statements by the ANC Youth League

The National Press club strongly condemns statements by the ANC Youth League President Julius Malema that the media has "sponsored views".

Yusuf Abramjee, chairperson of the National Press Club said these outrageous comments are ridiculous and go as far as being laughable.

"The unfounded attack on the media is not new from the ranks of the ANCYL and we in the media will not be deterred in our quest to get the truth out to the public," he said.

Abramjee said the National Press Club wishes to congratulate the City Press newspaper for exposing what the club believe is clearly in the public interest.

"Julius Malema is a public figure and we should not be distracted by the ANCYL attack on us and our integrity. Let's continue to inform and educate the public. Let's continue to be bold and fearless and let's continue to do the right thing."

He said Julius Malema and his colleagues can point fingers at the media for as long as they want, but the media should not be sidetracked. "The focus is on him and the focus must remain on him."
