Oudtshoorn: Reports of continued instability a concern - Anton Bredell

WCape MEC says he remains in consultation with key stakeholders concerning the situation in the municipality

Statement: Oudtshoorn

1 July 2015

The Provincial Minister of Local Government in the Western Cape, Anton Bredell, has noted - with concern - reports about continued instability in the Oudtshoorn Council, this time pertaining to the alleged non-approval of the council’s budget for the new financial year (see EWN report).

The Minister has written to the municipality requesting formal confirmation as to the status of the municipalities’ budget for the 2015/2016 financial year.

The Minister remains in continuous consultation with key stakeholders regarding Oudtshoorn. These include the National Minister of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs and the Provincial Minister for Finance.

“I will at all times deal with any situation in Oudtshoorn, within the legal framework guiding local government. I remain committed to resolving the ongoing instability in the Oudtshoorn council.”
