Parliament should debate Nkandla report urgently - Pieter Groenewald

FF+ MP says his request is different to the DA's one which the ANC will simply block

FF Plus asks for urgent debate in parliament about Nkandla report

"The Freedom Front Plus will in terms of Rule 103 and 104 be asking the Speaker of the National Assembly for an urgent debate of public interest about the Nkandla report. Although Parliament is in recess and consideration by the Speaker is usually given during a Parliamentary session, the FF Plus views this issue of such public importance that the Speaker will have to make an exception and even organise a special session of Parliament," Dr. Pieter Groenewald, the FF Plus' Parliamentary leader says.

"This request is different to the DA's substantive motion where the motion will most probably be blocked by the ANC's majority. The FF Plus directs this request to the Speaker who will with great difficulty be able to deny the request given the requirements of Rule 103 and 104. Through this it can be ensured that president Zuma and his ministers will at the very least have to debate the findings of the report in the National Assembly.

"The FF Plus is also starting a campaign through social media on facebook and twitter with the slogan ‘Protect the Public Protector' in support of the PP to ensure that she completes her term and that her safety is guaranteed.

"In support of this, the FF Plus will also launch a web page with the link www.protectpublicprotector.org.za which will be active within the next day," Groenewald says.
