Rector transforms Maties to University of Anarchy

The Rector of the Stellenbosch University, Prof. Wim de Villiers’ mismanagement is leading to anarchy at the University. Protestors invaded the campus today and burnt down structures. The protestors were not only students, but also university employees. 

“The Rector is responsible for the safe-keeping of university assets, including cultural assets. He created this climate of violence himself with his irresponsible utterances about the language policy. He should act now to safeguard the cultural treasures on the campus,” says Morné Mostert, National Representative of AfriForum Youth.

AfriForum Youth Maties has learnt that the protestors tried to burn the statue of JH Maree. This statue was erected with the funds left behind by Maree to start the first Afrikaans university in Stellenbosch.

“This statue is a direct confirmation that Afrikaans belongs at Maties. We will clean the statue, as its foot-piece got smeared black with soot. AfriForum Youth is currently in discussions with the University Management in an attempt to ensure the conservation of the cultural treasures on the campus,” says Bernard Pieters, Spokesperson for AfriForum Youth Maties.
