ActionSA KZN insists ringleaders behind July unrest must face the law

ActionSA KZN notes and welcomes the arrest of the suspects who allegedly sparked the July unrest. An event that brought about widespread looting, destruction and the loss of life in KZN.

While we are pleased that these 20 suspects have been arrested and will appear in court 26 August 2022, South Africans need to be satisfied that these men are not merely being scapegoated by the real instigators of the chaos that ensued in KZN last year.

After more than a year since the devastating incident, this step is long overdue, and this means that the authorities are getting closer to the full truth of what transpired in July last year.

If true justice is to be served in this matter, it is equally important that the politicians who exacerbated the carnage of July 2021 be held accountable for their inaction or their deliberate participation in the unrest.

The truth is that the July Unrest has a human cost and it cannot simply be forgotten. South Africans lost their livelihoods and some even lost their lives.  

ActionSA implores all parties involved in the investigation to expedite their processes to ensure that all instigators are found and made to face the full might of the law.

Only then will the citizens of KwaZulu-Natal truly receive the justice they seek.
