SARU withdrawing invitation to Tel Aviv Heat will send a message – ANC

Decision a reminder to Israel that its illegal occupation of Palestinian land is an injustice

ANC notes SA Rugby’s decision to withdraw an invitation for Tel Aviv Heat to play in the Challenge Rugby Tournament

6 February 2023

The African National Congress notes the decision by SA Rugby to withdraw an invitation for the Israeli-based Tel Aviv Heat to play in the Mzansi challenge rugby tournament.

We hope this decision will serve as a reminder to Isreal that its illegal occupation of the Palestinian land is an injustice that should not be tolerated. The ANC continues to call on all progressive forces of the world to continue putting pressure on Israel to go back to a peaceful dialogue around the two states' solution and ultimately end one of the most protracted conflicts in the Middle East.

The illegal Israeli settlements on Palestinian soil are in contravention of intemational laws and United Nations Security Council resolutions. We reiterate our call to end Israel's continued military occupation of Palestine and the resumption of talks aimed at realising the ideal of an independent Palestinian State, living side by side and in peace and security with the State of Israel.
