SACP and ANC Mpumalanga events postponed - Alliance

Secretariat meeting also commits to trying to stabilise and normalise the situation in Malamulele

Alliance Secretariat Meeting of 5th February 2015: Mpumalanga Joe Slovo Lecture and ANC Rally are postponed

The Alliance National Secretariat, composed of the ANC, SACP, COSATU and SANCO, met yesterday, 5 February 2015, at Luthuli House in its regular meeting to discuss issues of common interest, as well as to reflect on developments in Malamulele, Majakaneng, and Randfontein.

The Alliance has agreed on a programme to visit Malamulele as soon as possible to meet with all alliance structures in the area. This is informed by a desire to create stability and normalize the situation in Malamulele.

The Alliance Secretariat, whilst noting serious service delivery concerns, condemns the destruction of public property and violence.

The meeting further agreed to postpone this weekend's political activities in Mpumalanga, which include the ANC's 103rd anniversary celebration rally as well as the SACP's Joe Slovo Lecture.

This decision was taken in order to allow political engagements among alliance components in the province, and avoid the repeat of what happened during the last Joe Slovo lecture in KwaNyamazana.

We appeal to our members of alliance structures to respect this decision and allow leadership to deal with the issues politically. We thank the provincial leadership of alliance in Mpumalanga for accepting this decision.

Statement issued by Zizi Kodwa, ANC National Spokesperson and Alex Mashilo, SACP Spokesperson on behalf of the Alliance Secretariat, February 6 2015
