SAHRC to look into Clive Derby-Lewis' situation - Front Nasionaal

Francois Cloete says this follows a meeting with the commission's Gauteng director

FRONT NATIONAL positive meeting with HRC

Front National was invited to an urgent meeting with the Gauteng Provincial Director of the Human Rights Commission following the charges of Human Rights Violation committed against Clive Derby-Lewis , which the party submitted in July 2014.

The meeting took place at 12 o'clock noon on Tuesday 25 November at the offices of the Human Rights Commission in Braamfontein Johannesburg. Front National delegates were: Hannes Engelbrecht (national leader), Willie Cloete (Head of Operations) and Gordon Fox (Party Chairperson). Marius Coertze, the legal representative of the Derby-Lewis family also attended.

The HRC was particularly interested in the evidence submitted by mr Coertze, who submitted evidence of unacceptable administrative neglect and of the serious deterioration of the medical condition of Derby-Lewis. As a result of the cancer he has already lost the use of one lung.

Hannes Engelbrecht also submitted the letter which Front National received from the Department of Correctional Services indicating that the issue was rather more political in nature, than judicial (see link below).

The Gauteng Commissioner of the HRC indicated that there was definitely a case to investigate and that a visit to Derby-Lewis to determine future action will be the next step.

The press was well represented at the meeting and an interview was recorded for broadcasting by E-news.
