Schools must receive materials promptly – EFF

Fighters say adequate resources are crucial for an effective and enriching educational experience

EFF statement on the return of learners to school for the 2024 school year

17 January 2024

The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) warmly welcomes all learners back to school as they embark on a new academic year. Education is the cornerstone of empowerment, and we reaffirm our commitment to advocating for accessible and quality learning environments for every child in South Africa.

As the academic year begins, we emphasise the importance of ensuring that all schools receive learning materials promptly. Adequate resources are crucial for an effective and enriching educational experience, and we call on authorities to prioritise the timely distribution of learning materials to every educational institution.

It is imperative that schools with inadequate infrastructure, particularly those with pit latrine facilities, are promptly reported to the EFF so that they can be eradicated. Sanitation is a fundamental right, and no learner should be subjected to substandard conditions that hinder their ability to learn and thrive.

Furthermore, any school found denying a learner registration or withholding their academic reports must be reported to the nearest EFF Branch or through our social media platforms. Education is a constitutional right, and we will not tolerate any impediments to learners accessing their rightful education.

We also commend all EFF public representatives for their efforts on the first day of school in assisting parents with learner placements. We urge them to continue this vital support throughout the academic year, ensuring that no learner is unjustly denied access to education.

However, this year's return is clouded by the heavy rains and storms wreaking havoc in KwaZulu-Natal which has prohibited some schools from opening and prompted an early release for others. Our hearts go out to those affected by this dangerous weather, and we prioritise safety above all else, therefore we urge all parents and learners in KZN to heed the warnings from the relevant authorities.

Do not attempt to reach schools if roads are flooded, bridges are damaged, or weather conditions pose a risk to your safety. Your well-being and that of learners comes first.

To all learners, always bear in mind that education is the key that unlocks a brighter future. Make sure to apply yourselves, exercise discipline, and work hard to reach your full potential. Your dedication today shapes the promising tomorrow you envision.
