DA sends video on Youth Wage Subsidy to President Zuma, Zwelinzima Vavi

DA Youth sends Wage Subsidy video to Zuma and Vavi

As a part of our on-going campaign to educate young South Africans about the Youth Wage Subsidy, the DA Youth has today launched a video highlighting the views of young South Africans we have met so far during this campaign (see below). Whether it was young people in townships, suburbs or inner cities, employed or unemployed, the message was the same: we want a Youth Wage Subsidy and we want it now.

We have today sent a link of this video to @SAPresident and @Zwelinzima1 and challenged them to respond.

It is time that both Zuma and Vavi saw for themselves just how desperate young South Africans are for an opportunity to make an honest living. President Zuma may not have the guts to face the young people of South Africa on Youth Day, but the least he can do is watch and listen to their concerns in the comfort of his office.

The groundswell of support for the Youth Wage Subsidy cannot be ignored any longer. This corresponds to TNS research released last month stating that 77% of young South Africans support the subsidy. It is not only young people who support the idea: the Democratic Alliance, National Planning Commission, Black Business Council, Business Unity South Africa, National Treasury, Fedusa, United Nations Development Programme, United Nations Economic Commission for Africa, Organisation for Economic Development, African Development Bank, KZN Broad Black Economic Advisory and KZN Premier Zweli Mkhize all believe it will be a positive step in addressing youth unemployment in South Africa and should be implemented.

We will ensure that as many South Africans see this video by:

  • Posting it on You Tube and Twitter,
  • Sharing it with youth icons on social media, and,
  • Screening it at rallies and in house meetings around South Africa.

Support for the Youth Wage Subsidy is rapidly growing, with new voices being added to our call for its implementation daily. The DA Youth will not stop with this campaign until the Youth Wage Subsidy is implemented.
