Selebi verdict a positive reflection on SA's justice system - ANC

Jackson Mthembu says case is proof the law is being applied without fear or favour

ANC STATEMENT ON THE COURT CASE BETWEEN THE STATE AND CDE JACKIE SELEBI

The conclusion of the case today, the 02 July 2010, between the state and the former Chief of Police, Cde Jackie Selebi clearly indicates that South Africa as a country is governed by laws that are applied without any fear or favour to anyone, regardless of their standing.

The ANC is of the view that the law has taken its course and again as part of the South African community, we reiterate our confidence in our judicial system.

As we celebrate the successful, memorable and the first hosting of the FIFA World Cup in our country, we can indeed also be proud that our judicial system can stand amongst the best in the world.

Statement issued by Jackson Mthembu, African National Congress national spokesperson, July 2 2010
