Seriti report a farce – Pieter Groenewald

FF Plus says commission showed arms deal just another corruption scandal that will leave a sccar on ANC govt

Seriti Commission’s report a farce

21 April 2016

The Seriti Commission’s findings that no proof of fraud and bribery in this multi-billion rand arms deal could be found is a farce and just a waste of tax payer’s money, Dr. Pieter Groenewald, the FF Plus’ chief spokesperson on Defence said.

He said the finding that absolutely nothing irregular took place, that all the requirements had been met and that the arms which had been purchased is being fully utilised is just not true. At present, there are approximately twenty Gripen fighter jets in storage and are not being used at all.

“If there were no irregularities, one can rightly ask why Schabir Shaik and Tony Yengeni, as the previous chairperson of the joint standing committee on defence, had been found guilty and sent to jail for irregularities related to the arms deal.

“The Seriti Commission once again showed that the arms deal is just another corruption scandal which will leave a scar on the ANC government,” Dr. Groenewald says.
