Ses'Khona looting pure criminality - Ivan Meyer

DA WCape leader says organisation has done nothing but terrorize the poor and vulnerable

DA condemns Ses'Khona looting as pure criminality

Wednesday 25 February 2015

The Democratic Alliance condemns acts of looting yesterday outside the Bellville Magistrates Court, allegedly by supporters of the convicted Ses'Khona Nine (see report).

Images of the looting spree show members in yellow t-shirts stealing goods and supplies from traders outside the court.

Looting is pure criminality, and no reasoning of provocation can hold any water.

It is unacceptable that while the leadership of Ses'Khona appears in court to be sentenced for crimes at Cape Town International Airport, their supporters embark on another crime-spree outside of the court.

Ses'Khona has masqueraded as a "people's rights movement" but in reality they have done nothing but terrorize the poor and vulnerable.

Their illegal activities extend beyond the dumping of faeces, to the illegal selling of land and fake jobs, and the alleged destruction of crucial service delivery infrastructure. They now add to their wrongdoings the looting of small business stalls and theft of stock.

While the leadership of Ses'Khona delays their sentencing in court, they are only delaying the inevitable.

The fate of the Ses'Khona leadership is clearly set: They must now face punishment, and must stop delaying the inevitable outcome.
