Sewage thrown into five buildings on campus - UCT

University says it is regrettable that this action of a few people is putting an extra burden on cleaning and security staff

Campus Announcement: Cleaning of 5 buildings underway

24 February 2016

Dear colleagues and students,

In the very early hours of this morning, around midnight, small groups of people entered five buildings on Upper Campus – Robert Leslie Social Science, Robert Leslie Commerce, Menzies, Beattie and the Chemical Engineering Building – and threw sewage into them. Cleaning staff are removing the mess this morning.

It is regrettable that this action of a few people is putting an extra burden on cleaning and security staff as well as creating a health hazard for anyone who enters these buildings. It also interferes with those who come onto campus for educational and research purposes.

Campus security and traffic officers are monitoring all entrances to the University of Cape Town to ensure safe access for students and staff members. UCT’s first priority is the safety and security of students and staff members, and to ensure that the campus is operational.

Sincerely

Kylie Hatton
