Dhlomo must resign on Thursday
Health MEC Sibongiseni Dhlomo must resign from his position on Thursday when he addresses the KZN legislature on his abuse of a medical helicopter that resulted in crash victim Asheen Maharaj (15) being declared brain-dead.
The DA made the request for the urgent discussion to legislature Speaker Peggy Nkonyeni last week.
It has since been revealed that MEC Dhlomo used Durban's only medical helicopter to fly to a funeral in Hlabisa while medical emergencies went unanswered in one of South Africa's largest metros.
MEC Dhlomo's conduct was both deeply immoral and illegal. He cannot continue to oversee public healthcare in KZN. Through his actions, he has caused a lifetime's worth of harm to not only the Maharaj family but the families of those involved in other medical emergencies in Durban on that day.
The DA will not stop until MEC Dhlomo is either fired by KZN Premier Zweli Mkhize or resigns himself. The Maharaj family must be compensated for their loss and all information on medical emergencies in Durban on 3 November must be released.
