State still working on Marikana process – the Presidency

Preparations under way to develop the alternative dispute resolution process, says government

Update on the civil claims against Government arising from the Marikana incident

14 October 2015

Government is still seized with preparations toward developing the alternative dispute resolution process announced by President Jacob Zuma last month in addressing the consequences of the Marikana tragedy.

Last month President Zuma announced the alternative mechanism to expedite the processing of claims arising from the incidents in Marikana both leading up to and on the 16th of August 2012.

The President said that a judge, assisted by experts, would lead the process.

Government is aware of the anxiety of the families and will engage with the legal representatives of claimants in due course to take this process forward.
