ANC's step aside resolution welcomed – SACP

Party says decisive implementation of the resolution will go a long way in clamping down on state capture

SACP welcomes implementation of the step aside resolution

30 March 2021

The South African Communist Party (SACP) welcomes the emphatic implementation decision communicated by the African National Congress (ANC) on Monday, 29 March 2021 following a meeting of its National Executive Committee, that “All members who have been charged with corruption or other serious crimes must step aside within 30 days”.

Decisive implementation of the resolution will go a long way in clamping down on state capture and other forms of corruption within our broader movement, the state, and the economy.

The SACP further welcomes the ANC National Executive Committee decision that the ANC will suspend in terms of its Constitution the indicted individuals who fail to step aside within 30 days.

The SACP has fully supported the resolution and continues to support it resolutely. The implementation of the resolution is long overdue, considering that the ANC first adopted it eight years ago at its 53rd National Conference in December 2012. The 54th National Conference of the ANC reaffirmed the correctness of the resolution three years ago in December 2017.

Building revolutionary moral high ground is one of the programmatic bases of a reconfigured Alliance and is important to the necessity to forge a widest possible patriotic front behind advancing, deepening, and defending the second radical phase of the national democratic revolution. The SACP calls upon all members of the entire movement to support the implementation of this resolution and to intensify the fight against state capture and other forms of corruption. This is essential for organisational renewal and unity of revolutionary purpose.
