"SunSmiles for Easter!" - Daily Sun

Newspaper's publisher Jeremy Gordin hands out presents at Kagiso early childhood development centre (April 22)

Daily Sun (April 22 2013) - THE little kids couldn't wait to open their gifts.

They waited patiently in line with big smiles as Daily Sun publisher Jeremy Gordin handed out presents.

As part of giving back to the community, Daily Sun went to Kagiso early childhood development centre in Diepsloot, north of Joburg to give kids Easter gifts.

Kgopotso Mahlatji (27), owner of the creche, said she started the creche last year because there were so many kids on the streets.

She said: "I love kids. I'm a mother of three and that is why I decided to look after kids whose mothers are working."

She said she had a special price for the jobless parents. Kgopotso said they pay half-price for their kids at the creche. "I want the kids to be in a educational environment which allows them to grow," she said.

Kgopotso said they were grateful for the People's Paper's support.

"This is not the first time that Daily Sun has come here.

"Last year they came for Christmas and made sure the kids received gifts.

"The kids are very happy to be getting Easter eggs and books to draw and colour in," she said.

Jeremy said: "This is our way of giving back to the community.

"We have to look after our future leaders and put smiles on their faces."

The creche caters for 35 kids.
